Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu

We practise Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu 大東流合氣柔術, one of Japan's oldest and most influential martial traditions, and the root art from which Aikido descends. The curriculum centres on the development of aiki 合氣 — a quality of body and mind that allows one to receive and redirect force without relying on size or muscular strength.

As the hombu dojo teaches: 力でも関節技でもない、本物の合氣 — "Not strength, not joint techniques — this is true aiki." The exercises that cultivate this quality benefit martial artists seeking internal development, as well as meditators, yoga practitioners, and anyone interested in lifelong health and vitality.

Muden Juku Dublin is a branch dojo (支部道場) under the direction of the international headquarters in Sapporo under Hiroo Iida Shihan. We are also associated with Muden Juku Ireland, the European headquarters, located in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny under the direction of Oisin Bourke Jun Shihan.

Headquarters — Sapporo, Japan

Muden Juku carries the authentic aiki of Kodo Horikawa, who was awarded the title of Eternal Master (永世名人位) by Sokaku Takeda himself. Daito-ryu Muden Juku was founded by Hiroo Iida Shinhan, who received direct instruction from Horikawa Kodo. Muden Juku was established with a clear purpose: to preserve and transmit the aiki of the Horikawa lineage for future generations.

Through a distinctive teaching method, Iida sensei makes aiki accessible to everyone — regardless of age, size, or physical strength. Because it does not rely on muscular force, children and older adults, men and women alike can all develop this quality. Training offers not only martial development but lifelong health, stress relief, and a sense of deep purpose and vitality.
